Telephone Headsets From GN Netcom And Plantronics
Telephone headsets, especially wireless types, can be a essential efficiency tool in an office. Users are able to have both hands free and can multi-task. Also people can move around as they wish without worrying about missing an important call. There are a number of options when it comes to headsets but when it comes to use in a busy office environment single ear types with a noise cancelling microphone are generally preferred. These provide good quality audio for both parties to the call whilst still allowing the headset user to hear what is happening around them.
When evaluating office telephone headsets you will inevitably be looking at offerings from Plantronics and GN Netcom. These two companies are the major players in this market and both produce excellent products such that it is difficult to choose between them.
It does not matter if you are looking for corded or cordless headset there are appropriate products available from both organisations. We therefore have made a decision to compare two of the most popular cordless headsets. - the Plantronics CS55 Wireless Headset and the GN Netcom GN9120.
Plantronics CS55 Wireless Phone Headset
- Works on 1.9Ghz frequency with DECT 6.0 wireless technology
- Up to three hundred feet roaming distance away from the office telephone
- Noise canceling microphone filters out noise from surroundings
- Provides clear audio and secures calls using 64 bit digital encryption
- Easy to use controls requiring only one touch for each function
- Has up to 10 hours of talk time
- Recharges in three hours but will recharge 80% in half that
- Convertible office wearing style, allows one to wear it over the head or over the ear
- To remotely answer and terminate calls the optional handset lifter is required.
GN Netcom GN9120 Wireless Telephone Headset - Flex Boom
- Uses the 2.4 Ghz frequency rather than the more common 900MHz
- Uses DSS protocol, originally developed for secure military communications
- As with the Plantronics model the user can go up to 300 feet from the base station
- Offers up to 8 hours talk time
- The battery can be recharged in 1.5 hours
- This version features a noise filtering Flex Boom microphone but there are other types available
- Features a facility for up to 4 headsets to join a call
- As with the Plantronics model the headset lifter for remotely answering and terminating of calls is an optional extra.
These models are for use with office PBX telephones. Plantronics have a very similar model the Plantronics CS55H for home use (with analogue phones).
Taking all the above into account it is difficult to choose between the above two models. But perhaps the Plantronics just wins because of its longer talk time. Having said that users are likely to be very happy with either option.
