Making life easier with power tools
The first power tool was created in Germany, by Wilhelm Fein in 1895. The drill was powered by a motor together with the weight of the person using it. Black and Decker arrived a few years after, in 1917, with a power drill which was modelled on the Colt 45. Since the original power tools were created, technology has improved and it is now possible to purchase tools which make all manner of tasks easier, whether at home or at work.
Although there are many specialised tools, the basics such as hammers and drills form the backbone of most tool boxes. As technology has progressed, these tools still have a place, but are powered with compressed air, electricity and oil. The most common power tools are powered by lightweight batteries, such as screwdrivers, drills or jigsaws, making light work of manual labour. Some heavier duty tools, such as chainsaws, run on petrol, and are therefore much more powerful and suited to bigger jobs.
Power tools are essential for many home projects, making a job easier and much faster than using manual tools. Although hand tools should have a place in your tool box, power tools undoubtedly make life easier. For a large home project which requires large amounts of sawing, or lots of nails to be hammered into a surface, a circular saw or pneumatic nail gun will be quicker and easier for you to use. A power jigsaw can be used for intricate curves and shapes, and will make for much lighter work than a hand saw, and with greater accuracy. Cordless power tools are preferable if you are working away from a convenient power source, as they negate the need for trailing power cables which could be a hazard. Cordless tools are less cumbersome, meaning that they are much easier to handle for longer periods.
Purchasing the power tools that you need can be expensive, and it may be worthwhile buying tools that are suitable for a host of jobs. Buying your power tools from a reputable hardware store such as here at Wickes is essential, to ensure that you get the best quality available for a much lower price. Safety wear is also advisable to avoid accidents; protective goggles are essential to keep your eyes out of harm's way, with protective overalls and safety gloves also being advisable.
Professional builders will benefit greatly from using power tools, as the amount of time and effort required for a project is reduced. Their customers will appreciate the precision which is achieved with the use of power tools as well as the professional finish to all tasks. As customers expect you to complete work in as little time as possible, power tools will help you to work quickly, without making costly mistakes.
Power tools have greatly improved since the first examples back in 1895, requiring much less effort to use. Technology is improving constantly, with a larger selection of power tools available, corded or cordless, to make your life easier.

Frequently Asked Questions...
How long do I need to charge a 18 volt 1.5ah battery on a charger with an output of 26 volts @ 210mah?
I just got a new black and decker cordless 18v chainsaw and I dont want to fry my battery (the charger does not have any full battery indicator). How long should I charge my battery after its fully drained? Do I just go by watts?
Thanks
Answer:
The 26 volt output is much too high a voltage to charge a 18 volt battery. Hopefully the 26 volts drops to the 20-22 volts needed when connected to the battery, and the current doesn't go above the 0.21 amps.
Skipping the voltage, you calculate with the currents.
1.5 amp-hour / 0.21 amp = 7.1 hours.
I would not trust any charger that did not have a "full charge" indicator.
